MY Camper Juho Kuisma: Maths and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

18-year-old MY Camper Juho Kuisma likes maths and would perhaps like to link it to his other passion, motorcycles, in the future.

Juho lives in a small village called Kylmäkoski which is located about 150 kilometres North from Helsinki. Juho’s family includes his parents, two older sisters and a cat. Juho studies in a small Viiala high school with only 150 students.

Juho found out about MY Camp from his math teacher. He looks forward learning from the professionals in MY Camp.

“In my mind world without science would be a world without passion.”

Like most of the MY Campers, also Juho doesn’t know anything more fascinating than exploring world and how it functions. He is in the Applied Mathematics group of the camp.

Juho’s project plan deals with the flying route from Helsinki to Nuuk, Greenland. He calculated the shortest route between the capital cities of Finland and Greenland. A funny coincidence was that the ash from the eruption of a volcano in Iceland caused huge problems to air traffic in Europe for weeks in April.

Of course Juho has other interests besides math and science. Athletics and riding his motorcycle takes up Juho’s spare time. He thinks that in the future he would like to engineer new parts for motorcycles, for example.
