Over 1000 young people applied to the fifth International Millennium Youth Camp. Now 200 candidates have been chosen to the second round of the application process.
Out of the 200 best candidates 94 were male and 106 were female. The candidates are an international bunch and represent six continents. 43 were from Asia, 16 from Africa, 71 from Europe, 12 from North-America, 29 from South-America, 9 from Oceania and 19 from the Middle-East.
Experts and scientists responsible of the ten different theme groups selected the best applicants. While academic achievements were an important measure, creativity and passion for science also weighed the selection balance. These candidates now continue to the second round of applications. In the second round the applicants will be tasked with project assignments that challenge their skills, knowledge and creativity.
“That day was a real mix of feelings,” recalls Juan Cruz Landoni, who participated in the previous Millennium Youth Camp in 2013 and returned to Finland in January 2014 to study chemistry at the University of Helsinki.
“The anxiousness to know the result was finally over, and I felt really happy and relaxed but at the same time a new adrenaline rush appeared to know what the new assignments were and how I was going to do them, the even stronger desire to go to the camp,” he describes his reactions to finding his name among the 200 successful candidates who continued to the second round of the application process.
Juan was also curious about who else was continuing and was “checking the other people’s names, nationalities, and wondering about who could get chosen and how they would be.”
Around the world successful applicants are now feeling the buzz and excitement of being closer to achieving their dream. It is time to show that talent and passion can take you to the fifth International Millennium Camp in Finland June 2014. Congratulations and good luck in the second phase!
