MY Camper Peter Major: ICT is the Future
17-year-old MY Camper Peter Major is passionate about new technology and electronic engineering. He thinks that ICT is ‘the way’.
“ICT is a very strong field of today’s economy, and a very important part of our lives, we can’t deny that. Today even toddlers write Facebook updates or tweets to Twitter. I’m positive that this field will be very strong for a long time, and learning about it, working in it is definitely going to be worth it.”
Peter, who is from Hungary, acknowledges many reasons for applying for the Millennium Youth Camp in the first place. Travelling to Finland, and especially its capital sounded extremely compelling as did making new acquaintances.
”I’ll also be thrilled to meet the young geniuses of the planet, and the mature ones too. I’ve never ever spent a week in such a community… Now that I think about it, I’ve probably never even seen such a community. I have no idea what we will learn in this camp yet, but I’ll be happy to find out.”
In his spare time Peter modifies his telephone and maintains his own website. He admits that the technological sciences are the only thing that truly interest him when it comes to choosing a career. Creating code for computers is one of his dearest hobbies.
”As WordPress’s [a common blogging system] slogan says, ‘Code is Poetry’, so I’m a poet of some kind.”
Peter’s project looks into how computers have become not only a necessity, but a central invention in our society. According to him, there are some risks involved.
”Being surrounded with a load of things that think is great, as long as they aren’t used against us. How can somebody use them that way, and what can we do to prevent it?”
