“MY Camp was one of the best weeks of my life! I really enjoyed hanging out with people from all around the world”, says 18-year-old An Ran Chen from New Zealand.

“The project was hard work but it was rewarding at the end and we learnt things that were beyond school curricula. I would recommend this camp to everyone,” she adds.

An Ran was one of the 2012 MY Campers in Applied Mathematics theme group. Next year, MY Camp offers more themes to choose from as altogether 10 theme groups will be formed out of the 60 Campers, who’ll work on projects related to more sustainable future.

The themes for MY Camp 2013 are: Applied Mathematics, Biosciences & Biotechnology, Climate & Climate change, Energy, ICT, Food sciences & Food technology, Material sciences & Material technology, Renewable natural resources, Urban planning, and Water.

In addition to project work, the campers also get to visit Finnish universities and enterprises, and meet prestigious people from the fields of science and technology.

“The campers and the first-rate scientists the camp gathers can make international friendships. This year we even got to talk with the latest Nobel medicine laureate, Dr. Shinya Yamanaka!” says 18-year-old Pablo Lanaspa from Spain.

“I met personally 2012 Nobel Prize winner, it seems like a dream! I remember all those awesome people I met in June. If possible I would like to visit all of them right now. The reason is I have never met a group of such smart and at the same time such nice people”, adds 19-year-old Simona Zimova from Czech Republic.

During the week in Finland, the Campers get to spend unforgettable moments with each other and form friendships and networks that will someday possibly help them solve some of the problems our planet is facing.

“Every time, I run through the camp photo album, it really makes my day. I can’t stop smiling with all that happiness and friendship we had during only one week. It was like we had known each other for months. I really enjoyed and appreciated this awesome and unforgettable week. All in all, I can say that Millennium Youth Camp is the marvelous experience you shouldn’t miss!” sums up 19-year-old Thamonwan ”Ping” Chaemprida from Thailand.
