MY Camper Papon Muangsanit: Science will not fade away

When Papon Muangsanit was 14 years old, his life changed. He had the opportunity to go and study in Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, the first specialized science school in Thailand. Now Papon is coming to Finland as one of the talented students around the world selected for the Millennium Youth Camp.

18-year-old Papon Muangsanit grew up in a town called Sakon Nakhon, in the northeastern Thailand.

In Mahidol Wittayanusorn School they teach all of the students that ‘the true success is not in the learning but in it´s application to the benefit of mankind.’ That is what makes me keen to study further in science and to, finally, use that knowledge to develope my country, Thailand, in return.”

Papon will be in the group of Applied Mathematics at MY Camp. As a son of two doctors, he has been familiar with science and research for all his life.

When I was young, I always bought simple science experiments books to follow their amazing experiments; for example, to make a hovercraft by an ice, to make a solid soap by using bananas’ ashes and so on.”

Science will continue firing up our imaginations

Papon is especially interested in the ways science could enhance the living conditions of people. In his application project plan for MY Camp one of his goals was to help people with health problems. Diabetes is a condition that is characterized by deficiencies in insulin secretion. Papon planned a study to create mathematical models for understanding the glucose-insuline control mechanism.

Although the time is always passing, science will not fade away. It will be even more strong and important! This is because scientific findings will continue to improve our lives and fire up our imaginations for a long time to come.

Papon sees MY Camp as a great opportunity to share thoughts and ideas with other young people. He also looks forward to getting new friends and experiences.

Even a bright student like Papon doesn’t spend all his time studying science and mathematics. In his spare time he plays tennis and reads novels. He´s also quite a birdwatcher.
