MY Camper Parth Vaidya: Science is life!
17-year-old Parth Vaidya is interested in environmental science, and his dream is to help turn the world greener. In his project plan, Parth presents an idea how to help his home region in central India, which has suffered from scarcity of fresh water.

17-year-old Parth Vaidya describes himself as ‘young environmentalist’. He lives in Indore, a city in the heart of India, and is currently enrolling Std 12, focusing his studies on science – physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
“Science is life! This is what I think. The day I came to realize that whatever we have, our surroundings, our work, is totally a result of science, I started loving science, not just for exams, but for life,” Parth says.
He found out about MY Camp while searching for more information on the Millennium Technology Prize. “I saw videos and photographs from MY Camp 2010, which made me excited and interested to apply for the camp,” Parth says. To be chosen as one of the 30 MY Campers, is a dream come true for Parth.
He is greatly interested in environmental science, and likes to look deeper into it on his spare time. “I’ve got three national awards and two international awards for my work on environmental science,” Parth says.
His project plan for MY Camp’s Water theme group deals with proper environment management, influenced by a well managed water plan.
“Each city and each house should have proper waste water treatment system, and the recycled water should be wisely used. The idea is just a consequence of what my city suffered from, acute water scarcity. It made me think of such a policy that could allow the public to alternate the use of precious fresh water, where it is not required, like in construction, plantation, sweeping, washing,” Parth says.
Parth hopes that the projects that he and his fellow campers have been working on, and continue to work on during the camp, will not left unnoticed. “The projects should be considered by the world, and different governments. The ideas expressed should not go unheard,” Parth says.
He would like to study civil or environmental engineering in the Indian Institute of Technology, or in Finland, if a good placement is offered. “I would definitely like to build my career in the field of environmental sciences, and help the world to turn green and green!” Parth says.
During his free time, Parth likes to surf, listen to music, and read encyclopedias. He also looking for information on competitions, projects and quizzes in the field of environmental science all the time.
