MY Camper I-Ching Tseng dreams about changing the world
Since elementary school 17-year-old I-Ching Tseng has dreamed about visiting northern Europe. Now she has a chance to fulfill that dream as a one of the 30 talented young students selected for the Millennium Youth Camp out of hundreds of applicants from all around the world.

I-Ching was born and lives in Taiwan. Taiwan is a small but beautiful island on the coast of China. About 98% of the Taiwanese population is of Han Chinese ethnicity.
The target of the Millennium Youth Camp (MY Camp) is to network young people from all over the world together and with Finnish business life and top scientists. I-Ching is anxious to meet the other MY Campers, to learn more about science and technology, and to make some friends.
She is also looking forward to having a chance to talk to the top scientist and visiting the top institutions and laboratories.
“We might also have a chance to learn more about Finland and Helsinki. I think the day I leave Finland I will have tears in my eyes, because there are too many things to remember about this country and this camp.”
She is especially interested in research done at the fields of nuclear physics and microbiology. In her application project I-Ching designed a hydrogen-generation system powered by the fallen leaves. She thinks that we, as the members of earth, should have some responsibility for the nature.
I-Ching also works on a project with a styrofoam-decomposing bacterium from mealworms. It is the first biological method to decompose styrofoam straightly, which also won the best of category and other big prizes of 2009 Intel international science and engineering fair, the largest pre-college science fair in the world.
“I love microbiology. I want to use microbes to change the world, to protect our earth from further damage, and to make good use of natural resources.”
